Brothers Joe and Dan go out for a night on the town. Only one comes back: 18-year-old Dan is fatally stabbed by Emma, a drug addict. His family falls apart. The father, John, takes up whiskey and jogging, and Joe believes his parents wish it was he who had died, rather than Dan.
